AGC recently announced that it will permanently close its Jerry Run flat glass plant in West Virginia, USA, due to declining demand. The plant was placed on "hot hold" in January, meaning that production had stopped, but the furnace temperature was retained to keep its structure. Around 180 employees lost their jobs when he facility was put on hold status and the remaining 52 workers will stay on until the plant's inventory is sold off. AGC also made a further 100 job cuts at another of its US plants in Kingsport, TN. The Blue Ridge plant, which manufactures patterned glass for the solar industry and serves much of the export market, has also been hit by falling demand.
