[Us] Turning The Screw

More and more domestic wineries are turning to new closures. A lyrical publicity executive writes: "With a twist of an elegant new screw cap, Napa's Pepi Winery will make one giant leap for simplicity and ease, sending the traditional corkscrew straight to the dustbin of contraption history". The entire line-up of Pepi wines will all feature sleek new Stelvin screw caps. Pepi is part of the Kendall-Jackson Wine Estates. In a related move, R H Phillips Winery is switching its entire line of wine labels to screw caps. In May, 300,000 cases of new vintage wines were bottled with screw caps in an entirely new package for a release shortly. This is believed to be the biggest commitment to screw caps in the US so far. Phillips has chosen a Torqued On Pilfer Proof (TOPP) screw cap closure, produced by Global Cap in the UK.
