Us Gas Shortage Leads To Rising Prices

With many high energy users turning to natural gas for environmental reasons, the US natural gas output has fallen behind demand by more than 120bn cubic meters per year, pushing up gas prices. The country was relying on reserves and imports from Canada to meet consumption needs, however, Canada is also facing rising domestic demand. The current price is US$6.17 per million British thermal units, which is double the average price for 2002 and is expected to continue to increase during the summer, a period when prices normally decrease.
