(Us) Doe Awards $1.22M For Study Of Glass Properties

To improve energy efficiency and productivity in glassmaking through computer modelling, the US Department of Energy has granted $1.22m over three years to the Industry University Centre for Glass Research (CGR) for the first year of a three year study of the properties of glass melts. Long seen as a critical need by the glass industry, the compilation of a reliable properties database should minimize production of defective glass, sometimes as high as 50% and thus reduce the amount of energy required for production.
