[Uruguay] November Start Expected For Montevideo Glassworks

Uruguay's first glass container factory since the closure of Cristaleria del Uruguay in 2000 is expected to be commissioned November 2007. The factory is located in the Cerro area of Montevideo and plans to make bottles for carbonated soft drinks, beers etc. It was reported that some US$7M was donated to the initiative by the government of Venezuela, fully supported by President Tabare Vazquez, whose main intention is to provide employment for the country's youth and educate them about the glassmaking process. Another target is to utilise as much reclaimed glass as possible from the country's waste stream. Ebigold SA, trading as Envidrio, is understood to have acquired an electornically-timed 8-section, double gob, 51/2" cd IS machine from Revimac and will operate a 60/tpd furnace. A type 503 feeder mechanism has been sourced from the Argentine supplier MAVSA.
