United Glass - Flexible Production

UG has launched the country's first flexible production facility at its factory in Alloa. It has been created following the rebuild of the 84 shop white flint furnace at the plant. Up to 4 different jobs can be run simultaneously from 2 machines allowing customers to benefit from flexible planning & lower minimum runs for special containers. This leads to lower stockholding & provides distillers with the opportunity to trail NPD bottles faster & without incurring significant mould costs. The innovation has been introduced as part of a £4.5M rebuild & improvement to 84 shop. Forming machines have been re-engineered & custom-designed cold end equipment, palletising & conveying machines have been installed. Items can be made using any combination of the 12 available machine sections but each machine can only produce jobs of the same glass weight at any one time.
