[Uk] Recovered Glass Price Falls On Prn Surplus

UK glass reprocessors & recyclers claim the market price for recovered glass fell for the first time in over a year following the announcement of packaging recover note (PRN) price figures for Q2, 2010. The price for recovered glass has fallen a considerable amount for the first time in 18m, due to its link to a falling PRN value. However, British Glass said, while acknowledging a slight fall in prices paid for cullet, warned against "scaremongering" over the amount by which the price could fall. The fall is presently said to only be affecting green & mixed glass streams. A (BG) spokesman said: "Obviously, we have seen the same figures as everyone else & there is confusion as to what drivers there are behind it, & there is speculation as to what the real reason is. It is very difficult & dangerous to speculate about the potential for that to be a continued trend."
