Britain's BBPA said a total of 2,365 pubs closed during 2009 and there are now 52,500 pubs in the UK. The averages for the second half of 2009 hide big losses in the free trade (22/week) against 12 for tenancies and five for managed houses. Over the same period 735 pubs were sold into the free sector. The closure rate of wet led houses was three times that of those majoring on food.
