Uk Government Targets Recycling

DEFRA has made recycling one of its top priorities for the next 12 years. The government department published its new three year strategy in May, which included a target of 25% of household waste to be recycled by 2005/6, rising to 30% by 2010 and to at least 33% by 2015. The currently recycling rate in England is just 12%. To aid the programme, the government will allocate English local authorities £270M over the next three years to promote recycling. The targets are included in a document called "Our Strategy 2003-2006, available online at: www.defra.gov.uk/corporate/strategy0306/
