Uk Government Responding To Pressure From The British Plastics Federation

The UK plastics industry has scored a success in cutting environmental taxes. Plastics firms could see an 80% reduction in the CCL, according to BPF director, Peter Davis. Speaking at the federation's AGM yesterday, he said Customs & Excise had given the BPF the go-ahead to make a case for whole sectors in the plastics industry. It was reported that last year, Customs & Excise was consulting the plastics industry on extending exemptions to the CCL. The levy affects UK plastic firms' competitiveness with other EU countries and against other materials, it was claimed. Davies told BPF members the government had responded to pressure from UK plastics firms and trade associations. "The chancellor and his ministers are fed up with all the protests." The BPF is looking to set up a scheme for "energy intensive" companies over a 3% threshold.
