Two Big Housing Developments Get Thumbs-Down

Plans for two separate major housing developments in Barnsley have been rejected by councillors. Pelman Distributors Ltd wanted outline permission for a residential Meadow Street in the town centre and Beatson Clark had requested to redevelop the former glassworks with 140 properties. Councillors said both developments were a departure from what the land had been designated for - even though the Pelman plans had been earmarked for approval by planning officers. The Beatson Clark development was refused because the area is designated as land for employment purposes.
