French technology & media group Thomson signed agreements on 1/07/05 under which Spanish glass group Rioglass will take over its glass cathode ray tubes activity, Videoglass, situated at Bagneaux-sur-Loing, FR. Rioglass plans to set up a glass-conversion activity for the auto industry on the site. Rioglass is specialized in glass parts for the car & transport industries, & has a prestigious client base, including Aston Martin, Audi, BMW, Seat, Skoda & Volkswagen. The group operates 6 plants in Spain, Belgium & Brazil. The Rioglass transfer meets Thomson's objective of maintaining a glass manufacturing activity at Bagneaux-sur-Loing. The Spanish group will convert the Videoglass business into a windshield, rear-view window & car-window manufacturing activity. Thomson says Rioglass is well-positioned in a growth market, & will employ at least 300.
