Thinking Green: Recycling In The Refractory Industry

As the world's largest producer of refractory materials, RHI recognises the need to be environmentally conscious as well as to support the efforts of customers to reduce their carbon footprint. In 2009, RHI recycled over 70,000/t of used refractory materials received from all markets worldwide. These materials (not all made by RHI) are used in a large variety of products and applications with the end goals to save natural resources, reduce carbon emissions created by processing raw materials, reduce landfill, safe landfill costs and provide cost savings to customers. This paper presents RHI's recycling philosophy.
