Bangkok Glass of Thailand is to have its production capacity increased from 513,000/tpa to 657,000/tpa as a result of a major investment by its controlling shareholder, Boon Rawd Brewery. The increase will make it Thailand's biggest glass container producer, ahead of Thai Glass Industry, which has an annual capacity of 543,000 tonnes. Of the expansion at Bangkok Glass, an estimated 60% of the new output will be beer bottles with the rest split between spirits and drinks. Only 10% of output will be exported. Boon Rawd has found itself short of bottles since Thai Glass Industry was acquired by the rival drinks group Chang Beverage. Another new glass container plant project in Thailand is being built by a joint venture of Malaya Glass, Siam Glass Industry and Thai Asia Pacific Brewery.
