Test Method For Sampling Protocol For Tclp Testing Of Container Glassware Approved

The Am Soc for Testing & Materials (ASTM) C21 Ceramic Whitewares & Related Products Committee voted on September 29 to approve the Test Method for Sampling Protocol for TCLP Testing of Container Glassware which was developed by Ceram Research for SGCD. Based on this approval, SGCD staff anticipates that the Toxics in Packaging Clearinghouse (TPCH) will extend its glass packaging exemption from model rules that ban the intentional additional addition of lead or cadmium to packaging. TPCH members had requested that SGCD establish a standardized method for grinding glass for TCLP testing before the group formally considered extension of the exemption which expires on Dec 31/04. In addition, the State of Minnesota bases its exemption for in-state glass & ceramic decorators from its lead in products ban on the continuation of the TPCH exemption.
