UK supermarket giant Tesco has seen a surge in beer sales since carrying out a full review of its portfolio last May. "We've put a lot of effort into our beer category during the last 12 months which has contributed an an 11.4% growth in beer sales, versus total market growth of only 4.75%," the company said. In tupically ruthless fashion, Tesco withdrew 80 beer brands, replacing them with 75 others, majoring int he speciality ale, cider, own-label and world beers segments.
