Temporary Plant Shutdown

Glaverbel (Belgium), on the verge of being taken over by Asahi Glass Co., is to shut its Dutch plant at Tiel for three months to help cut capacity further. It had already announced capacity cuts including reducing furnace pull and extending maintenance stoppages at several EU glass factories. The Tiel site produces architectural glass, mainly for the Netherlands and Germany where demand has suffered recently. The closure will cut output by 35,000 tonnes.
