The Japanese electronics maker Sharp Corporation, is considering increasing production of large flat panel liquid crystal displays (LCD's) at its Mameyama factory in Japan to meet strong global consumer demand for LCD flat screen televisions. Sharp is the world's biggest maker of LCD TVs. It expects the global market to nearly double to almost 15M units in its financial year to March 2006. Sales of LCD TVs in Japan overtook those of CRT TVs in May. As LCD TV demand increases, it takes more market share from cathode ray tubes, used since televisions were first invented. This pattern is also being seen in the market for monitors for computers and other visual display products.
