Packaging compliance scheme Valpak, has warned that some compliance schemes and obligated companies may have failed to comply with their UK Packaging Waste Regulations obligations in 2004. DEFRA's recovery and recycling figures for the fourh quarter of 2004 show that the UK failed to meet intermediate recycling targets for aluminium, steel and plastic, and the overall general recycling target. The total number of packaging recovery notes purchased in 2004 leaves the UK 80,000 tonnes short on its recycling target, with 40,000 tonnes of this shortfall accounted for by plastic.
