Survey Provides Overview Of Plastic Bottle Recycling In The Uk

The 2000 survey by Recycling of Used Plastics (Recoup) indicates that 49% of UK authorities are operating plastics bottle collection schemes, an 8% rise compared to 1999. Five such schemes had ceased to operate. Of these, 80 are combined kerbside and bring schemes, 85 are bring only and 45 are kerbside only. Some 3.6m households are served by 125 kerbside collection schemes and there are 4115 plastic bottle banks. Participation tends to increase with collection container size, whilst carrier bag collections perform least well.
