Massachusetts law prohibits the application of lead-based paints or glazes to any cooking, drinking, or eating utensils. The definition of lead-based paint or glaze is one containing over 0.6% of lead by weight. Massachusetts regulations for lead poisoning prevention and control establish a 2ppm lead leaching limit as a performance test If the product tests less than this, it may be sold (no warning); over that, not legal for sale. The test described in this paper have been established as the proper method to determine salability.
