Stress Inspector Detects Invisible Defects

MSC has developed an inspection system which is able to detect tension caused by defects in glass containers. It can be used as a complement to the MCAL sidewall inspector, or to the MCF base inspector. The stress inspector can find very small defects in the base and sidewall of glass containers. Many of them, such as birdswings, blisters, stones and tears, can be removed from production using the traditional camera inspection (sidewall and base) because they are visible to the naked eye. However, some other defects that produce tension in glass are so small that they are invisible to both the human eye and cameras. Nevertheless, they are critical and must be detected. The polarised light detection system developed by MSC allows these faults to be detected on the production line, due to the tension area that they produce.
