Strength Issues In Chemically Strengthened Glass

Chemical strengthening is becoming a more and more popular subject in glass processing. Recently several standards have included chemically strengthened glass (EN 12337-1, ASTM C1422-99) but there are still some issues to be discussed. This paper focuses on the origin of the strengthening effect resulting from the ion-exchange process to better understand the limits of its application and to identify best available methods for the different applications.
