Stability Of Glass Depending Upon Climatic Storage Conditions

Saint Gobain Desjoncqueres (SGD) undertook a study, carried out by a EU Pharmacopoeia expert in Switzerland, on the stability of glass containers in function of climatic conditions. For these tests, containers having the same shape of glass types I, II and III were used. They were stored for two years under three different climatic conditions. The study allowed the prediction of safe periods for storage in either moderate or tropical environments. Conclusions from the experiment recommended rinsing and/or washing of the containers so that extended periods of storage do not alter the glass.
