Corning Inc., recently introduced an ytterbium-doped double-clad fibre with all-glass cladding that enables output power in excess of 100W. The all-glass cladding provides a significant performance advantage versus today's polymer claddings that tend to degrade over time. Available in single-mode, multimode and large-mode-area profiles, Corning's double-clad fibres achieve 78% slope efficiencies. This specialty fibre is targeted for defence, commercial materials processing, marking lasers and other high-power laser applications. Its development was supported in part by the Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency under the High Power Fibre Lasers Program. Corning also announced enhanced products for specialty assemblies in the telecom, datacom, aerospace and biomedical industries. T
