Spanish Plant Construction Planned

Saint-Gobain is to invest Pta8.5bn in the construction of a new plant at Montblach, Tarragona, for its spanish subsidiary Cristaleria Espanola. It is expected that the company's bottle production capacity in Spain will rise by 10% once the plant is operational in 1998. The acquisition of other companies could also form part of Cristaleria's expansion plans as the firm looks to take advantage of good trading opportunities. Financial results for 1996 were positive in the main, with only the Portuguese subsidieries Covina and SSG ending the year in the red. (whole item)
