[Spain] Glass Recycling

According to Ecovidrio, Spain's integrated management system for glass recycling, a total of 840,000 tonnes of glass were deposited at glass collection containers across the country in 2006. This means that Spaniards recycled an average of 12.9 Kg of glass bottles and other containers in 2006, an increase of 1.5 Kg on the previous year. The amount of glass recycled in 2006 prevented the emission of 338,000 tonnes of CO2. Each tonne of glass recycled represents a saving of 1200 Kg in raw materials, making a total in excess of one million tonnes in 2006.
