Spanish supermarket chain, Eroski, has unveiled details of a campaign to raise awareness on recycling which it has organised with Ecovidrio, the non-profit association that manages collection and recycling of glass container waste in Spain. During a press conference, Eroski director said that the aim of the campaign is to teach "responsible consumption" so that consumers pick up habits that will help the environment. Speakers will address schools in one-hour lessons on glass recycling to groups of 15 people. 100,000 leaflets with a list of 10 tips for consumers are being prepared. Consumers interested in taking part can sign up by phone or by the supermarket website. The campaign expects to increase domestic glass container recycling by around 10%/year. Each Spaniard recycled 10kg of container glass in 2003, for a total of 622,037/tonnes.
