A Shattering Idea

The use of the beer glass as a weapon may soon be a thing of the past. Leerco Engineering has secured a substantial grant from the DTI-sponsored SMART awards to run a feasibility study into developing its pioneering firing technique, following assistance from Business Link North Yorkshire (BLNY). Potentially, the new glasses could be twice as strong as those usually used in pubs and clubs and if broken, they would smash into tiny fragments, in a similar way to modern car windscreens, making it virtually impossible for them to be used as a weapon. The process would involve incorporating a mechanism at the end of the oven that allows the glass to be strengthened without affecting the quality of the print. Leerco was advised through all the various stages of the grant application by BLNY innovation and technology advisor R Benson.
