Senate Holds Hearing On Labelling Uniformity Bill

The US Senate HELP (Health, Education, Labor and Pensions) Committee held a hearing on July 27, to review S. 3128, the National Uniformity for Food Act. If enacted, the Uniformity bill would prevent California enforcement of Proposition 65 warning requirements for food and food packaging that differed from FDA requirements unless the agency were to formally approve of the warnings. The House of Representatives passed Uniformity legislation in March. Both the House and Senate versions of the bill would apply to all food packages including glass bottles.
