Scotch Whisky - The Cornerstone Of The Scottish Economy

According to the Scotch Whisky Association, the Scotch whisky industry is worth £4BN/pa in added value to the Scottish economy. Only the North Sea oil industry brings in more. Its turnover is £6.4BN and it uses £1.1BN of raw materials sourced increasingly from Scotland itself. It employs 10,300 people. Gross value added per employee is £262,000, more than three times that of the financial services industry in London!
