Schott: Uv Ray Filtering Glass For Lcds

Longer life for LCD screens is now possible thanks to two types of glass developed by Schott. The two glass types have a filtering effect on UV rays which protects the plastic components from premature ageing. Flat-screen displays have a limited life because the ultraviolet radiation emitted from the backlights damages plastic components inside the screen. The UV radiation responsible for the damage to the components occurs in the invisible wavelength spectrum between 254-313nm. Schott has managed to incorporate a UV filter for this frequency range in the two new glass types so that no complex coating is necessary at a later stage.
