Schott Expands

A new 3,800 square metre production facility to process optical coloured filter glass and Maxos safety sight glass has begun operations at Schott's factory in Penang, Malaysia. Coloured filter glass is used in infrared lamps and surgical lights, while Maxos products are used normally as sight glasses in petrochemical plants and in industrial boilers and furnaces. The company expects to create 80 new jobs at the plant as a result. Operations at the Penang factory were suspended for 10 days in Janauary while a new SAP computer software system was installed.
