News that San Miguel Corp (SMC) one of Asia's biggest bottle manufacturers, has been found guilty of uncompetitive behaviour has rocked the ASEAN bottle sector. SMC is one of the country's most admired & most respected corporations. The company's image is well deserved because of the quality it incorporates into its products & practices. Therefore, people are extremely disappointed to read & hear news reports that SMC has been found guilty of underhanded business practices against its business rivals in the beer business. Admirers of SMC found it hard to believe that the Marikina Regional Trial Court had ordered the food & beverage giant to pay over P130M in damages to rival Asia Brewery Inc, after it was found guilty of unfair trade acts for hoarding & removing from circulation over a million bottles & thousands of its competitor's plastic cases. In a 47-page decision dated November 18, the company was ordered to compensate Asia Brewery for the profits it lost as a result of SMC's unfair trade acts.
