Samtel Colour To Make Plasma Display Units

Indian-based colour picture tube manufacturer, Samtel Colour Ltd (SCL) has started a pilot project to make plasma display units for use in future generation plasma televisions. The project has claimed to make SCL the first domestic company to venture into this area. According to company officials, an R&D unit with an initial outlay of 70m Rupees has been set up to make the plasma display units. SCL expects to launch the plasma display prototype by early next year with production starting in 2004.
