Samsung Electronics (Korea) have announced the development of the thinnest reported LCD panel, no thicker than a credit card (0.82mm), which is 0.07mm thinner than the panel previously reported slimmest. To achieve the slimmer package size, Samsung's Mobile Display Team re-desigend the light guide plate sub-assembly and the glass substrate, which accounted for most of the LCD module's thickness. Samsung also contributed to the trend towards slimmer phones with its new i-Lens technology that integrate s the entire panel assembly, including a protective layer, into a singe, thinner module that is more shock-resistant and easier to read. Mass production is scheduled to begin autumn 2007. (see: www.samsung.com)
