Samsung Corning

Samsung Corning Deutschland GmbH (SCD), a subsidiary of South Korean company, Samsung Corning, is hoping to make a profit this year. president H K Park is confident the company will post a DM7m profit on turnover of DM 254m. Samsung Corning was established in 1973 as a venture between the Samsung group and Corning Inc of the US. Samsung Corning acquired TV manufacturer Tschernitz GmbH in south-east Brandenburg from Treuhand in 1994 and has since invested DM400m. Expansion of the Brandenburg plant was completed earlier this year. Capacity is now 8m TV screens and glass tubes annually; this year, the workforce of 720 people is expected to turn out 7m units. The main customer is Samsung Elektronische Bauelemente (Berlin), followed by France's Thomson group, Philips and Sony. (whole item)
