Saint-Gobain (SG) Vicasa in Andalusia, Spain, have told employees that their proposed labour force adjustment plan (ERE) will be carried out in a "non-traumatic" fashion through incentives & similar measures. Sources explained that no change is expected in the workforce at the plants in Andalusia, however, staff are reportedly "uneasy" about the plan, which was said to affect 6,000 people in Spain, France & the UK. Sources said that SG had informed them of the existence of several buyers & of expectations to formalise the sale in 2009, although it was reported that SG "has not yet made contact" with them formally to give them the name of the new company that will take over the plant or of the proposed conditions. Consequently, some fear the break up of the group, as Spanish legislation does not allow the acquisition of complete industrial groups.
