Saint-Gobain Polish Float Plant Opened

In April this year, after 20 months of construction work, Saint-Gobain opened a DM180m glass facility in the southern Polish town of Strzemieszyce. DM60m for the investment came from a consortium of Polish banks, DM40m from German and French banks and DM80m from Saint-Gobains's own funds, it was reported. The Polfloat plant, employing 280 people, will produce 15m square metres of float glass annually. Half of its production will be exported to central European countries, Germany, Greece and Scandinavia. A further DM500 is planned for Poland by the end of the century in developing, amongst other things, the production of laminated and specially hardened glass for the automotive industry.
