Plans by US brewing giant Anheuser-Bush to distribute some of its products in aluminium bottles should not affect output or jobs at the Saint-Gobain plant in Dunkirk, which produces more than 2M Budweiser bottles/day. Saint-Gobain is one of the largest employers in Jay County, with around 400 employees. The local economy was seriously affected in 2002 when Indiana Glass closed down, displacing 300 workers. "We are Anheuser-Bush's largest glass bottle supplier & we don't anticipate any sort of major switch in that direction," said Tina Gaines, PR Officer. "It (the new container) is in a test phase right now," she said. A local bar owner said distributors had told him the new container was designed to keep beer colder longer. The Jay County Beverage Co, (Budweiser distributor) said the new containers were pricey & glass is what the majority of people prefer anyway.
