Saint-Gobain Chairman Not Ruling Out Diversification Into Plastics Packaging

Jean-Louis Beffa, chairman of Saint-Gobain, has reiterated his confidence in glass for beverage packaging, although without ruling out diversification into plastics. "We have not ruled out the possibility of acquiring expertise to make a quality product - not for soft drinks - in a high value-added segment," he said, withoug further explanation. As far as beers are concerned, he observed that plastics processors had not yet found a real solution and that the biggest US brewer was continuing to invest in glass packaging.
