Saint-Gobain 1997 Profits Best Ever

Chairman of French glassmaker Saint-Gobain, Jean-Louis Beffa, recently told shareholders that the group should record 1997 net profits "significantly higher" than the FFr4.3bn achieved the previous year. He said that in 1997 the group will produce the best results in its history. The CEO also commented that while January and February had been bad, the company saw a clear improvement in march, and this had since been confirmed. Europe in particular is showing signs of recovery, he noted. (whole item)
