The Russian government has introduced minimum prices for vodka in Russia. On 1 January the government implemented a minimum price for vodka, almost doubling its cost to a minimum of 89 rubles. Russian President Menvedev has ordered measures against high rates of alcohol abuse, which are to blame for the low life expectancy of men in the country. Furthermore, the government plans to triple the excise duty on beer and to limit its availability.
