[Russia] Draft Federal Law On Packaging And Packaging Waste

The Russian Duma held parliamentary hearings on 17 June 2010 on the Draft Federal Law on Packaging and Packaging Waste. The pre-meeting discussed the controversial articles of the Draft Federal Law and examined the proposals of enterprises interested in addressing the problems of selective collection and recycling. The meeting was attended by Mr Viktor Ivanovich Osipov, President of "StekloSouz" Russia. In his speech, he recommended that the Committee would include leaders of recycling plants in the hearings. In the Soviet period, Russia used to process up to 80% of recycled materials, but in the post-Soviet period, this fell dramatically to only 3-7%.
