Romania's Government plans to introduce a special levy on soft drinks as part of a new junk food tax. The country's health ministry said "The new tax will represent 1% from all fast-food sales, and the funds we will collect will help contribute to the country's health problems. Romanian press reports said soft drinks would be covered, although bottled water and fresh juices would be exempt. Dragos Frumosu, head of Romania's food industry federation, warned the tax will raise prices and force manufacturers to leave the country.
