Rexam Glass - Tracking Used Bottles

Rexam Glass has prepared for an economic upturn by investing £400,000 in new technology to track the millions of bottles and jars it makes every year. The electronic barcoding system will help to track any faults, identify the affected batch and keep managers informed of precisely where each pallet of glassware has gone, whether to the warehouse, in transit or delivered to customers, "We have 14 production lines producing 2,400 pallets full of glass every day and will have at least 80,000 pallets on site at any one time, so tracing stock has been time-consuming," says Martin Green, Rexam's IT manager. With the new technology, each pallet is given a barcode which is scanned every time the pallet moves. so if faults are found pallets from the same production line can be traced whether they are in the warehouse, have been scrapped, or delivered to a customer.
