Rexam has agreed to buy the German bottle maker Nienburger Glas from the brewing and drinks group Interbrew for £68M. Completion of the deal is due in late November and would give Rexam around 20% of the German bottles market. It would also gain a long-term supply agreement with Interbrew. Nienburger has four factories in Germany and employs nearly 1300 people, generating around £110M turnover and pre-tax profits of around £21M. Rexam has its own factory in Germany, at Bad Munder, and also has European glass container factories at Barnsley (UK), Dongen (Netherlands) and Gostyn in Poland.
