Refractories And Proppants Drive New Bauxite Materials

This article takes a look at the market for bauxite materials. According to the US Geological Survey, world output of bauxite reached 200m/t in 2011, the majority being used in the production of smelter grade alumina, itself used in the manufacture of aluminium. Smaller amounts (about 10M/t) of this served the niche non-metallurgical sector, which comprises applications such as abrasives, chemicals, calcium aluminate cement, refractories, and others.
