Rotherham-based Yorkshire Windows recently undertook a survey of their waste costs, and found them to be horrendous. Keith Haynes, Director of the firm said: "We were paying a high price for sending our waste to landfill & only 2 years ago we threw away 1,700/t glass, plastic, wood and metal. It was proving highly expensive so we contacted Recycling Action Yorkshire (RAY) and arranged a meeting with their advisors to give our waste disposal policy a total overhaul." RAY is regional recycling organisation, funded by Yorkshire Forward and the ERDF. Keith added: "With RAY;'s help, we now recycle over 22/t wood, 10/t plastic, & over 50/t glass per month. This is more than half of the total waste produced by the company. As well as financial savings, the work has helped the company to earn a major contract renewing windows in Rotherham Council's borough.
