Recycling Record

Glass recycling levels in the UK have reached record levels. The amount of recycled glass used in container production in the UK rose by 67,000 tonnes in 2005 to 742,000 tonnes, giving an average cullet content of 35.5% per container. Another 250,000 tonnes of recycled glass was exported from the UK to container glassmakers elsewhere in the EU. Other markets, such as aggregates, consumed another 280,000 tonnes of recycled glass and at least 1.272M tonnes of glass (50.8% waste glass) was recycled in the UK in 2005.
